FINDING GOD IN THE WILDERNESS
the ROAD I’M ON — WALKING IN FAITH

About Daily Christian
Daily Christian is a personal testimony in progress — transformation in motion.
This isn’t a church, a brand, or a teaching platform.
This wasn’t my choice, it’s a calling. I set out to learn. I’ve been moved to tell my truth. To share my walk.
This is one man simply documenting his journey from wilderness to faith, breaking through the fog of everyday living — told through story, song, and light.
What you’ll find here isn’t polished faith or easy answers. It’s the record of a real walk — confusion, surrender, small obediences, and the quiet ways God meets us along the road.
The visuals, the music, and the words are not meant to explain God, but to witness what happens when we keep walking toward the light, even when we can’t see far ahead.
Some people listen to the songs. Others read the story and reflections on The Road Back.
Take what you need. I hope you find something that helps. Leave the rest, it’s not all meant for everyone.
This site exists for anyone who feels worn down, stuck, or distant — not to convince or persuade, but to walk alongside.
If He can pull me up, He can pull up you. He’s pulling us every day. The question is do we resist, or do we surrender?
I’m still walking, so the story is still being written.
WHO I AM
-
The devil’s got a hold on me, his claws sink deep like rusted steel.
Dragging me through midnight mud, trying to tell me what to feel.
I look inside for the monster, but the face staring back is mine.
I’ve been drinking with my demons, sipping poison like it’s wine.Spirit, take control.
I’m losing my grip on this troubled soul.
I’m tired of running, tired of the cold;
won’t You take these bones and make them whole?
Where the devil built his home in my heart,
tear that house of sorrow apart.
Holy Spirit, take control.My footsteps echo in a graveyard where my old sins love to roam.
I’ve been walking down those crossroads, too afraid to find my way back home.
But Your whisper breaks the darkness like a warm wind on my skin,
and the light cracks through my ribcage where the night has always been.Spirit, take control.
I lay this worn-out soul down low.
I’m done with fighting shadows that stole
every good thing I used to hold.
Where the devil shackled my heart in the dark,
burn those chains with Your holy spark.
Holy Spirit, take control.
I was born Christopher Zulliger—“Christopher”—a name with meaning I certainly have not walked in fully. I’ve lived a lukewarm life, at best.
I spent decades chasing every vice, distraction, and shiny object. Living largely for myself. Seeking comfort over conviction. I eventually hit a low point where prayer was less of an idea and more of a lifeline—a rock bottom realization. A “come to Jesus” moment.
God answered—not with ease, convenience, or a cheat code—but with transformation. The long, refining, “are we done yet?” kind.
He continues forging me, through trials, challenges, stretching and shaping—into the very thing I pray to become.
“Be careful what you ask for.” Pray for patience? You may get a three-year waitlist. 😉 That’s where real transformation happens—not quickly, but thoroughly tested.
Sharing this website—my story, marks the moment I stopped hiding, stopped fearing, and finally accepted that I was created to share the beauty I experience in His creation and the “…Wonderful things in God’s law” — Psalm 119:18.
Now I write, create songs—and imagery from my walk in this world—towards light. I’m not a pastor or a preacher. I’m simply a man who’s been rescued, rebuilt, and repurposed—just a redeemed work-in-progress hoping my story sparks something good in yours.
This is my reborn identity centered in Christ. The stripped down, simplified, de-distracted, and spiritually-upgraded version of Chris Zulliger—the guy who finally realized God wasn’t done with him yet—and still isn’t.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." — 2 Corinthians 5:17
I receive the gifts of His Forgiveness, Hope, Peace, Joy and Love—the Power in his Presence—and Promises.
I release control of the uncontrollable. “Jesus take the Wheel.”
"Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." — John 14:27
"These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full." — John 15:11
What you’ll find here is not a finished testimony, but the map I’m using on The Road Back—notes written while still walking.
If you’d like to walk with me or follow along, I’d be honored. If my story lights even a small spark in your life, if it turns up the heat on your faith, then praise God—mission accomplished.
Peace be with you, Christopher
FORGING IN THE WILDERNESS
Like the Israelites, led by Moses, I wandered in the wilderness due to lack of faith and disobedience.
I’m learning everyday—when walking through difficult times, that the Bible offers encouragement and hope through various passages.
The story of Moses & the Israelites and these scriptures were the inspiration for the song “Out of The Wilderness”
Isaiah 35:1-2 offers a vivid picture of transformation and renewal:
"The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose; it shall blossom abundantly and rejoice, even with joy and singing."
Psalm 107:35-36 speaks of God's power to change desolation into abundance:
"He turns a wilderness into pools of water, and dry land into water springs. There He makes the hungry dwell, that they may establish a city for a dwelling place."
Isaiah 43:19 provides reassurance of God's new beginnings:
"Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."
These verses are giving me hope and remind me that, through God's provision and timing, the barren places in our lives can be transformed into places of growth and abundance. The Lord is faithful to guide us out of the desert and into His promises.
-
I was standin’ in the wasteland, Just sand in my hands, Dreams dried up and broken, Like a long-forgotten land. But I heard the prophet whisper, Like thunder on the wind — “The desert’s gonna blossom, boy, The barren’s gonna sing again.” I felt the ground start tremblin’, Like hope beneath my feet… Yeah, God was doin’ somethin’ In the places I called defeat.
Out of the wilderness, He’s pullin’ me out of the wilderness — Where the dry land turns to rivers, And the lost find home again. Out of the wilderness, Mercy makes a road where there’s no road yet — And I’m walkin’, walkin’ Into the promise of His hand.
There were nights I fought the hunger, Felt the emptiness inside…But He turned my thirst to watersprings, Right where hope had died. He built a city from my ruins, Gave the broken man a name —“Behold, I’ll do a new thing,” And nothing stayed the same.
I saw the desert bloom like roses, right where sorrow used to be. Yeah, grace rewrote the story, That the darkness wrote for me. Out of the wilderness, He’s pullin’ me out of the wilderness — Where the dry land turns to rivers, and the lost find home again.
Out of the wilderness, Mercy makes a road where there’s no road yet — And I’m walkin’, walkin’ Into the promise of His hand. Ohhh, I hear the waters risin’, Ohhh, I see the new thing springin’ up. Where I once was barely survivin’, Now I overflow with His love. Yeah, He leads me through the wasteland, Till the wilderness gives up.
Out of the wilderness, He’s pullin’ me out of the wilderness — Every step a holy promise, Every breath a second chance. Out of the wilderness, By the rivers only Heaven could have sent — And I’m walkin’, walkin’, Never goin’ back again.
Yeah…He turned my desert into a garden. And I’m walkin’ out…Out of the wilderness.
THE LONG ROAD BACK
-
I thought the light would hit me all at once,
switch flipped, war over, battle done.
Dark never comes like thunder or rain;
it moves in quiet, knows my name.Fear sits where faith should be.
I call it patience, call it peace.
I tell myself I’m further than I am,
standing still, feet in sand.When the light gets close,
I breathe again, I let it show.This dark road keeps winding on,
no signs, no shortcuts to lean on.
Your word’s a lamp at my feet,
light for the step in front of me.
I don’t make the light, I let it lead—
one more step in front of me.I choose comfort over being seen;
calm feels safer than honesty.
Light doesn’t rush, doesn’t accuse,
it waits where the shadows lose.I’ve thought about sitting in the night,
calling familiar good enough light.
Still something in me wants more
than the dark I’ve learned before.When the light gets close,
I breathe again, I let it show.This dark road keeps winding on,
no signs, no shortcuts to lean on.
Your word’s a lamp at my feet,
light for the step in front of me.
I don’t make the light, I let it lead—
one more step in front of me.I don’t see the end.
I don’t feel brave.
I know standing still
isn’t the way.One unsure step, still moving ahead.
The path gets clearer while I walk it.
I’m walking the step in front of me.
"Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, 'I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.'" ~ John 8:12
I’m still learning that walking in the light—a life centered in Christ, isn’t a one-time decision—it’s a daily choice. Sometimes it’s hourly. Darkness doesn’t usually arrive like a storm. More often, it settles in quietly: fear I tolerate, habits I excuse, silence when I know better. Following Jesus into the light means turning toward those places instead of pretending I’ve already moved past them.
What I’m learning—slowly, is that light reveals before it comforts. I’d rather skip that step. I want peace without exposure, direction without disruption. But every time the light uncovers something, it heals it. Every time it unsettles me, it realigns me.
Some days it feels like walking a long, winding desert road at night—no markers, no shortcuts, just sand, shadow, and a faint glow somewhere ahead. I’m tempted to stop, to sit down in the dark because at least it’s familiar. But the light doesn’t rush me or shame me. It waits—and keeps inviting me forward.
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path: ~ Psalm 119:105
The light reminds me that the miracles I seek are in the walk I’m avoiding.
I don’t create the light. I don’t earn it. I just keep walking toward it—one unsure step at a time. And somehow, even out here in the wilderness, the path gets clearer the longer I stay moving.
What part of your life feels like a lonely stretch of road right now—and what would it look like to keep walking toward the light anyway?
LEANING ON THE 7 Promises
-
I was walkin’ in the valley, heart carved up with stone,
’til Your mercy like a thunderclap said, “Child, you’re not alone.”
You pulled me out the shadows, lit a fire in my bones,
a promise of forever written deeper than my wrongs.Seven promises keep pullin’ me home,
through the midnight hour and the crash of my soul.
Your word don’t break, Your truth don’t bend—
seven strong lights on the road to the end.When the fear starts creepin’, breath short in my chest,
You stand beside my weakness, my shaking finds Your rest.
Your righteous hand is steady, my storm becomes a guest,
and Your peace rolls in like thunder, turnin’ chaos into blessed.You lift me up on eagle wings,
You give me wisdom when I can’t see a thing.
When I fall back to the dirt again,
Your forgiveness comes like rain,
washin’ every hidden stain.Seven promises carved into my bones,
seven reasons this prodigal walks home.
From the grave to the grace that won’t let go,
seven fierce flames in the dark of my soul.
In today's world, where promises are often broken and trust is frequently betrayed, the assurance that God keeps His word is a source of immense comfort.
Lately, I’ve been realizing — when faced with an overwhelming challenge, I can rely on the certainty that God is with me, and His promises hold true. His faithfulness doesn’t waver with my emotions, circumstances, or doubts — it remains steady, a foundation I can return to again and again.
This trust is transforming my outlook, giving me the strength to persevere and the courage to face any situation. It’s shifting my focus from what I cannot control to the One who governs all things with wisdom, love, and purpose.
I like to use the 7 Prayers below to remember and show gratitude for these 7 promises.
-
In the valley where my shadows fall, Your mercy found me, called me home.
Love like lightning split the dark; You breathed forever in my heart.When the fear comes crawling in, You whisper, “Child, don’t give in.”
Your righteous hand upholds my soul; You lead me where the waters flow.Every promise You have spoken is the anchor when I’m broken.
I’m held, I’m found, I’m Yours again.You are the God who keeps His word; every promise stands forever.
From the cross to the open grave, from my first breath to the last one You gave—
Jesus, Your love won’t change. Seven promises will never fade.When my mind is storm and fire, You guard my heart, You calm the choir.
A holy stillness fills the room; Your peace breaks every earthly wound.You’re the God who won’t run dry, riches deeper than the sky.
Every need and every tear, You supply and draw me near.You lift me up on eagle wings, You teach my heavy soul to sing.
I run, I rise, I will not faint—Your breath restores, Your love sustains.When I’m lost inside the maze, Your wisdom lights the narrow way.
You freely give, You freely guide—no prayer ignored, no truth denied.When I confess the parts I hide, Your mercy washes every lie.
Faithful, just—You make me new; no stain too deep for love like You.You are the God who keeps His word; every promise stands forever.
Life and strength, peace in the pain, wisdom for the road, forgiveness for the shame—
Jesus, Your love won’t change. Seven promises still call my name.Forever faithful, forever true—every promise leads me back to You.

Out on the hillside where the wind hums low,
Jesus spoke to the ones with dust on their souls.
He wasn’t talking to the mighty or polished and proud,
just the quiet, the weary, the worn-down crowd.
His voice rolled gentle like sunrise on skin—
come close, little hearts, let My kingdom in.There is a blessing in the breaking,
love in the ache. Grace grows wild in the cracks life makes.Blessed are the poor in spirit, heaven opens like a door;
blessed are the ones who mourn, God holds every tear they pour.
Blessed are the humble hearts, earth becomes their promised land;
blessed are the hungry souls, He fills them with His righteous hand. Oh blessed we are.
Even when the road is rough, His love is strong enough.Blessed are the merciful, hearts soft as rain;
blessed are the pure in heart, no shadows remain.
Blessed are the peacemakers walking slow through storm,
carrying heaven in the way they’re formed.
Blessed are the persecuted when the world turns cold;
heaven’s reward is richer than gold.Chorus Repeats
When the world presses hard and your faith feels thin,
remember this—you are not forgotten, you’re not done.
There is a fire in your chest that He Himself lit;
the night will pass, hold tight to it.Blessed are the broken ones makes them bright and brave;
blessed are the shadow-walkers, He turns darkness into day.
Every step, every wound, He is closer than your breath—
blessed we are, blessed we stay,
held in a love that conquers death.
-
Midnight on the mountainside, shadows crawling slow;
Jesus spoke to hollow hearts the world would never know.
Poor in spirit, torn and weary, barely standing where they are—
He said the kingdom’s already here, it’s closer than you thought.Blessed in the fire and blessed in the fight,
blessed in the darkness when you’re clinging to the light.
Blessed when you’re hungry, aching for what’s right—
mercy meets you in the middle of the night.Blessed are the mourners as He gathers every tear;
blessed are the meek ones finding strength inside their fear.
Blessed are the mercy-givers, soft and unashamed,
the pure in heart, the peacemakers, the ones the world has named.Blessed are the broken walking straight through pain;
grace rolls in like thunder on a dry and waiting plain.
Blessed are the faithful on the long and narrow road—
trouble shapes but never owns the weight you’ve learned to hold.When the night swings hard and the road runs long,
stand your ground—you were built to weather storms.
There’s a kingdom rising underneath your scars;
you’re blessed, you’re called, you’re carried by God.Blessed in the fire, blessed in the fight,
blessed when you’re weary, barely standing upright.
Through shadow and rain, through the longest night,
mercy is the melody that breaks every chain.
-
On the mountain in the morning light,
Jesus spoke and the world came alive.
To broken hearts and empty hands,
to those who feel they barely stand—
He said lift your eyes, you’re not alone;
the kingdom of heaven is your home.Every blessing sounds like mercy,
every promise breaks the night.
Take these words into your spirit;
let them bloom into your life.Blessed are we in the heart of God,
even when we’re weak, even when we’re lost.
Blessed are the humble, blessed are the pure;
heaven stands open for the longing and unsure.
He is making all things new in you and me.Blessed are the ones who mourn their pain;
God Himself will hold them in the rain.
Blessed are the meek the world calls small—
they will rise and inherit all.
Blessed are the hungry, aching for what’s right;
they will feast on the goodness of Christ.When the battle is heavy and the world turns cold,
blessed are the faithful, quietly holding hope.
Though pressed and tried and misunderstood,
your reward is held secure by God.
Lift your eyes—there is glory in the tears you cry.Blessed are we in the heart of God,
held in His strength and formed by His love.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, blessed are the pure;
we stand, we endure, we are made new.
-
This refers to recognizing one’s spiritual poverty and need for God’s grace, humility, and dependence on Him.
In the Old Testament “humble and contrite in spirit” echoes “poor in spirit.”
Isaiah 66:2 — “... the one I will esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at my word.”
-
Those who grieve over their sins or the brokenness in the world will receive God’s comfort and healing.
These show that God promises restoration and comfort to those who mourn.
Isaiah 57:18 — “I have seen their ways, but I will heal them; I will lead him and restore comfort to him and to his mourners.” Source
Also Isaiah 61:3 — “to grant to those who mourn in Zion... a garment of praise instead of a faint spirit.” Source -
Meekness involves humility and gentleness, trusting God’s timing and strength. Such people will ultimately find their reward in God’s kingdom.
“Inherit the land/earth” in the Old Testament corresponds to “inherit the earth” in Matthew.
Psalm 37:11 — “But the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace.”
Isaiah 29:19: “the meek shall obtain fresh joy in the Lord.”
-
A deep desire for God’s justice and holiness will be satisfied by His presence and righteousness.
The Old Testament theme is of yearning for God’s justice/righteousness which Jesus links to being filled.
While a clear single OT verse may not use the exact “hunger and thirst,” the theme of longing for righteousness is strong, e.g., Psalm 42:1-2 (like “As the deer pants for water, so my soul longs for you”) and Micah 6:8 — “He has told you… to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God.”
-
Showing compassion and forgiveness to others reflects God’s mercy toward us, and we will receive mercy in return.
The Old Testament emphasis: God delights in mercy and expects mercy; Jesus affirms the blessing for the merciful.
Though not as neatly matched, consider Hosea 6:6 — “For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt-offerings.”
Micah 6:8 (again) emphasizes “love mercy.”
-
Those who maintain inner purity and sincerity will experience a close relationship with God, seeing Him in their lives.
“Pure in heart” has roots in the Psalms. The promise “shall see God” points to intimate fellowship.
Psalm 24:3-4 — “Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? … He who has clean hands and a pure heart…”
-
Actively promoting peace and reconciliation reflects God’s character, and such individuals are recognized as His children.
The Old Testament links peace-making with God’s blessing; Jesus connects it with being called “children of God.”
Possibly echoing Isaiah 52:7 — “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace…” and Psalm 34:14 — “Seek peace and pursue it.”
-
Those who face opposition for standing up for God's truth and righteousness are promised the kingdom of heaven, as their commitment is aligned with God’s purposes.
The Old Testament theme: righteousness leads to suffering, but God vindicates; Jesus extends that promise to kingdom blessing.
Scriptures like Psalm 37:39-40 — “But the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; he is their stronghold in the time of trouble.”
Also Isaiah 51:7 — “Hear me, you who know righteousness… You who seek the LORD, look to the rock from which you were hewn…”
And generally the OT prophets and righteous suffer-ers are vindicated by God.
The Beatitudes are showing me profound spiritual insight and revealing the promises when I embody these qualities. They challenge me to live in a way that reflects God’s character — they promises divine blessing and fulfillment in this life and beyond.
These teachings reveal the values of humility, compassion, and commitment to righteousness, sharing how each trait is honored and rewarded in the spiritual realm. They encourage us to find blessings even in difficult circumstances, promising divine comfort and reward.
7 PRAYERS FOR 7 PROMISES
In the quiet rhythm of daily prayer, my soul is finding its balance again.
Each day brings noise, distraction, and demands that pull me away from what truly matters. But when I pause to reflect — to open my heart before God — I feel a realignment with truth, peace, and purpose.
Prayer is more than words; it’s a conversation with the Divine, a resetting of the heart’s compass. Through it, my fear is calmed, gratitude awakens, and wisdom grows. Reflection helps me see where God is moving in my life — even in the stillness, even in the struggle. If He’s moving so must I. Conviction over comfort.
Daily prayer is not about perfection; it’s about presence. It’s choosing to return, again and again, to the Source of all strength and love — and letting that presence shape who we become. I tried for far to long on my own. “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with God.”
I found that formal prayers are not the point, but adding an occasional one to my daily conversational prayers keeps these important promises in the forefront of my life.

It reminds us that confession is not about shame, but about freedom, the kind that only forgiveness can bring. Through God’s mercy, we are washed clean and made whole again.
BUILDING ON BELIEF — AND FAITH
-
I see Your glory in the sunrise glow. In the quiet of the morning when the cool winds blow. When I’m walking through the pines just to clear my mind. Lord, Your whisper in the branches is a holy sign.
Paul said, “Whatever you do, do it for the Lord.” So the simple little moments I used to ignore, become a place where heaven meets the everyday. Where my heartbeat turns to worship in its own small way.
Every breath, every step, every mile I roam… God, make my ordinary life Your throne… Lord, this is Yours — every heartbeat, every hour! Every hour! Turn my daily walk of life into holy ground power! Holy ground!
When I laugh, when I live, when I gather around. My life becomes the altar — and obedience is the sound!
I feel Your presence in the stories with my friends. In the table conversations that never seem to end. In the road trips, front-porch talks, kids runnin’ free. In the love of my family that keeps shaping me.
Not just Sunday mornings when the choir sings strong — But the Friday night firelight where we all belong. When I thank You for the joy instead of drifting past. Even ordinary moments start to shine like glass.
Every laughter-filled gathering, every peaceful place… You turn simple human moments into rivers of grace. Lord, this is Yours — every heartbeat, every hour! Every hour!
Turn my everyday connections into holy ground power! Holy ground! When I laugh, when I live, when I gather around. My life becomes the altar — and obedience is the sound!
When I walk outdoors… That’s worship! When I share my heart… That’s worship! When we sit as family and the day winds down… That’s worship!
Every bond, every joy, every time love is found… That’s worship! Not because it’s fancy — but because You’re invited in! Lord, this is Yours — every heartbeat, every hour! Every hour!
Turn the simple love of life into holy ground power! Holy ground! When I laugh, when I live, when I gather around. My life becomes the altar — Yes, my life becomes the altar — My life becomes the altar… And obedience is the sound!
Nothing done for Him… is ever wasted… Holy ground… holy ground…
I believe Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Not a concept to memorize, but a real person to follow—daily, imperfectly, wholeheartedly.
I believe true faith lights up from diligent study of His Word, honest application of His Laws, and a life grounded in Jesus. Reading isn’t enough. Church alone doesn’t cut it—but daily walk in His wisdom—and worship in all you do.
I believe the Bible still speaks today. Not as a history, but as the living conversation with God.
Wisdom that cuts through noise, comfort, and confusion, guiding us toward a life that’s awake and intentional.
I believe in a Christ-centered, non-denominational path.
No heavy traditions, no tribal arguments—just the teachings of Jesus lived out with sincerity.
I believe in unity and inclusion. Our Call from Jesus is for all believers to live in harmony.
“…that there be no division among you…” ~ 1 Corinthians 1:10
I believe in the Message—Jesus—The Messenger, and The Mission, not the method.
I gather, transform, combine, create and share content that inspires, from sources that align with the true message of Jesus.
I believe your soul becomes what you feed it.
So I aim to “reset my algorithm”, less chaos, more clarity; less distraction, more light.
I believe the Holy Spirit still nudges hearts.
In conviction. In encouragement. In those small moments that say, “You were made for more.”
I believe in grace—real, transformative grace.
The kind that meets you where you are but loves you too much to leave you there.
I believe every person carries God-given purpose—we ought to be dedicated to discovering and living out our callings. No one is too lost, too broken, or too late for redemption.
And I believe in living boldly—with faith in God and in ourselves—not to drift through a lukewarm life. To love well. To serve joyfully. To create courageously. To burn bright!
I don’t have this all figured out, it’s a daily practice — I don’t think I’ll ever get it all worked out. Maybe I will, but giving it everything I’ve got has been life changing. I’m not the same man I used to be.
Daily-Christian is being built upon my transformation and exists to continue my journey. If it inspires and empowers you to walk closer with Christ, one day at a time—simple, honest, and real — then praise God. He is with you.
RECLAIMING MY ALGORITHM
-
I’ve been walkin’ through the days With a heart runnin’ low Joy slippin’ through my fingers Faith losin’ its glow
Life felt lukewarm Like a pot left slow Didn’t see the heat changin’ Didn’t know where to go
I tried to outrun the shadows Till they caught up with me Found myself in the mirror Not who I meant to be
But the fog broke… and the truth spoke In the book of all books, that fire woke A faith alive — steady, true If He pulled me up, He can pull up you
Chased every distraction Just to feel alive Gave the best things nothing Gave my fear the drive
So I changed my inputs Dropped the junk, slowed the pace Lost a little weight on me Lost a lot more grace
Some good things had to leave me So the right things could stay Sometimes clearing out the clutter Is the only way
Yeah the fog broke… and the truth spoke In the book of all books, that fire woke A faith alive — steady, true If He pulled me up, He can pull up you
If you’re standin’ in the grey Feelin’ worn, feelin’ through… You ain’t walkin’ alone, not today, not ever God’s got a hand on you
Yeah the fog broke… and the truth spoke And the flame in my chest finally rose and woke I’m walkin’ with purpose, steady and true If He fought for me — He’ll fight for you
Just ask… He’s closer than you think.
Resetting the Algorithm of the Soul
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” ~ John 1:5
“For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light…” ~ Ephesians 5:8-14
Light, Algorithm, RHYTHM & RHYME
In scripture light signals transformation: from darkness to illumination, from death to life, from old mindsets to new. The “algorithm” of our being is not merely what we do, it’s what we allow in, what we feed, what our body and mind process. As software engineers say: “garbage in, garbage out.”
I’m learning to reset my algorithm to rhyme with the rhythm of light. When we begin to question what our inputs are: social media, explicit content, addictive consumption, consumerism. We start rewiring and reprogramming so that our outputs—our moods, relationships and our purpose are aligned with life and truth rather than entropy.
Sunlight Before Blue-Light
Modern science reveals how our bodies are built for rhythm. Morning sunlight resets our circadian clock; evening blue light from screens suppresses melatonin and disturbs sleep and renewal. - Source
In spiritual terms, we might say: the soul needs first light—true, natural, and nourishing—ditch the artificial glow of midnight scrolling.
Detox the Feed
Our “feed” is not only physiological metabolism, but psychological as well. Inputs: TV, social media, movies, music, consumer apps and gaming. Addiction hides in plain, socially acceptable sight—food, buying stupid stuff, binge-scrolling, numbing substances. These are modern “works of darkness.” ~ Ephesians 5:11 Modern comfort. We expose them by bringing them into the light. I finally dropped a truth bomb on myself—guilty as charged in all the above. A 7 day detox changed everything!
Research shows that social-media overuse correlates with poor sleep and mental health. - Source
Changing the Algorithm
What if your default algorithm—automatic triggers, late-night scrolling, impulsive buying—was designed by you, not by big tech and advertising? Yes, the dopamine spikes, and the “darkness” of distraction are designed to pull you in, BUT, you can still choose what to let in. What you’ll read, listen to and watch.
You can hack back your algorithm:
Start the day with sunlight and quiet stillness — prayer. End the day with silence and reflection — prayer.
Schedule breaks from social media; be intentional. Do a week long detox — you’ll feel the difference. You’ll not want to go back.
Choose media that builds truth, goodness, and beauty instead of cheap numbing.
Replace consumption with creation. Plant a garden. Draw a picture. Facetime your favorite peeps.
Replace noise with stillness, meditation and prayer.
Walk as children of light—because you are now light in the Lord. ~ Ephesians 5:8
Addictions Re-framed
Whether it’s alcohol, drugs, overeating, consumerism or the 100s of other ways to distract yourself from reality, these are all forms of seeking light in darkness. But the light promised in John 1:5 is not a quick fix, it’s a transformation. The darkness does not overcome the light. When the light enters, it changes the wiring of the soul, the algorithms of our habits, the rhythms of our day. The input changes the outcome—JESUS IS THE LIGHT!
Let this be your invitation:
As dawn breaks, step into the light. Let your body get real sunlight.
Let your mind detox from the digital glow.
Let your heart reckon with the hidden addictions and re-code your habitual algorithm. You’ll no longer be a slave to what you consume—you’ll be free to feed your soul with what liberates you from the darkness.
Be the light you want to see in the world.
And remember: the darkness may surround, but it cannot overcome the light.
Let the light rewrite your story.
We could all use a little Jesus in our lives.
And when He calls…
will you answer?
He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” ~ John 7:38
